Looking Forward

We often find ourselves looking forward, in anticipation or even sometimes in fear. It is a part of the way God has created us. The advancement of society has proven that. What a blessing we have in the record that the Lord has preserved for us. Our God has revealed himself over and again as the One that journeys with us. From His presence with Abraham, until today, He continues to bring direction and comfort to all that look to Him.

We sing a song titled; “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” written by Horatius Bonar in the mid-1800’s. The song bids us to look to Jesus, not only for rest but that He will quench our thirst with a life giving stream. The final verse of the song awakens us to the Light of Life, our Star and Sun. Jesus truly is “this dark world’s Light”. He has promised to be with us always. May He dispel any darkness as your turn your eye to the future. Jesus came to this earth for that express purpose.

Through the record of Matthew we read: “At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:25-30

He came to this earth as a humble child, born in the lowliest of circumstances. He was the “King of Kings”, yet he was not received or treated as royalty. He entered into our condition to share our joys and sorrows. He took away the burden of our sin debt by suffering and dying on the Cross of Calvary, and rising victorious over the grave. Believe the Gospel, it tells us our sins are forgiven in His name and because He shed His blood for them. He shines the light forward on our future. Be joined to Jesus, He will share the burdens of today and He has prepared the future!

May we say with the Apostle Paul: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3: 13 and 14
